HOW TO USE DOCK LINES:
Tying up in a slip typically works best with four dock lines: two bow lines, and two stern lines.
Use at least one bow line one stern line one spring line for a short stop alongside a dock.
For heavier weather and longer stays, add a second spring line in the opposite direction of the first when stop alongside.
Run the stern line aft from the side of the boat farthest from the dock. Place fenders between the boat and the dock, then tension up the lines.
Dock lines should be inspected regularly for signs of wear indicated by chafing damage, unraveling, or discoloration.
GUIDANCE FOR SIZE CHOOSING:
Choosing the diameter of dock lines is not an exact science, it depends on many variables such as boat size, boat weight, exposure to waves, wind, and currents - all of which should to be taken into account.
